Coldwell Banker was founded 100 years ago
in San Francisco in the aftermath of the 1906 earthquake by Colbert Coldwell and later Benjamin Banker.  Today, Coldwell Banker has more than 3,900 offices and over 126,000 sales associates across North America, Central America, Mexico, Europe, China, and the Caribbean.

Schmitt Real Estate Co. was started in 1955 by Alan G. Schmitt in Marathon.  He came to the Keys as General Manager for Phil Sadowski’s Key Colony Beach developments when today’s canalfront subdivisions were literally being
pumped in with dredges. 

In 1980, an office was opened in Big Pine Key.  In 1983, Alan’s son, Brian C. Schmitt became the Broker and in 1987 the company affiliated with Coldwell Banker.  In 1995, a Key West office was added.
