The Key Colony Point condos and townhouses are located at MM 53.5 off the Overseas Highway.

The majority of Key Colony Beach residences are on canals (with quick access to the Gulf of Mexico or Atlantic Ocean) or have ocean views. This makes KCB ideal for fishing and boating activities. There are also many businesses in the city, including restaurants, a charter fishing fleet, a marina, boat rentals, a clothing store, a gift shop, a dive and tackle shop, liquor store, gas station, convenience store, hotels and real estate offices. Recreational facilities include 4 parks, 2 playgrounds, bocce courts, pickleball courts, tennis courts, shuffleboard, and a 9-hole par-3 golf course.

Originally known as Shelter Key, the city was developed in the early fifties by founder Phil Sadowski and was incorporated in September 1957. It is situated on 286 acres and contains 1439 housing units and 89 undeveloped lots.  There are just over 800 residents of Key Colony Beach, but the population peaks to about 4,000 in mid-winter. Many property owners make their homes available to visitors for rent on a monthly or weekly basis. The upscale quiet tropical island atmosphere draws people from all over the world.

Five city commissioners elected for two-year staggered terms govern Key Colony Beach.  City elections are non-partisan and are held each year on the 2nd Tuesday in March.  At the annual organizational meeting on April 1^st, the new commission elects a Mayor and Vice-Mayor from its members and appoints the City Administrator, City Clerk, the Building Official, the Police Chief, the City Attorney, the City auditor and the City Engineer.  Management of the City wastewater collection and treatment facility and the City Golf Course are performed under contract.
